Historic architecture and museum highlights
Wat Phu Champassak is a Khmer structure that dates back to the 6th to 8th century during the Chenla kingdom where it is said that human sacrifices were performed, and to the 9th to 13th century of the Angkor period.
That Dam
There are Bhuddist temples in all the cities, towns and rural areas from the 14th to 19th century. From 19th to 2kth century are the French colonial structures which is a reminder of their occupation in Laos.
There is the mysterious Plain of Jars near Phonsavan which is still a great mystery to archaeologists. Bhuddist temples are readily refurbished and restored. Colonial architecture is most intact in Luang Prabang, Vientiane and Savannakhet.
Unesco, in 1995, added Luang Prabang to its World Heritage List for its landscape, an abundance of architecture of old temples and French provincial buildings.
The major museums in Laos is the Royal Palace museum in Luang Prabang and the interesting War Museum in Vientiane.
That Luang is situated in Vientiane and in Lao means Great Sacred Reliquary or Great Stupa. This is the most revered structure in all of Laos.
